Q7 TIPS & TRICKS – SET UP TRUCKING SOFTWARE DATA

Proper set up is essential for producing a healthy trucking software system. When accounts, shippers, drivers, equipment, and Item codes are set up correctly from the get go, you know that your financial reports are going to be accurate.

Frontline Q7 makes the set up process simple, but in this month’s issue of Q7 Tips & Tricks, we’re covering a few techniques you might not know about.

Use Quick Access Shortcut Buttons

Look for the buttons to the right of certain selections in Setup windows when you’re trying to assign a value, but it doesn’t exist yet. When you click one, you’re taken to a fresh copy of the associated set up type so it can be created. As a result, you don’t have to navigate to the other Setup list by hand.

Keep in mind that the item that you’re missing could also be inactive. If you aren’t sure, it’s always worth a double check by opening the Setup lists from the Main Menu.

Are Inactive Profiles Bogging You Down?

Making profiles inactive is a necessity for a variety of reasons. In certain Setup lists in particular, they happen a lot. Instead of wrestling with inactive profiles, simply change the flag in the top right corner of any or all Setup lists. This keeps your lists nice and clear of clutter.

Use the Profile Editor

If you’re auditing or starting with scratch to set up trucking software data, using the Profile Editor is a must. This window works as a bird’s eye view for many Setup lists. It’s specifically useful for profiles within a profile. For example, driver pay profiles within the main Setup profile can be very complex. When you have a rate increase, don’t toil away updating one profile at a time. Instead, launch the Profile Editor, perform a search on the Item code, and quickly update rates or other data all in one place.

There are several different types of profile details that you can work with in the Profile Editor, including rate charts which update frequently.

Take Advantage of the Search Bar

Looking for a driver, shipper, or location but you aren’t sure how the profile was named? Don’t waste time with scrolling or even sorting the grid. All Setup profiles have an advanced search bar that allows you to search for anything in your 3rd system color. Better yet, supporting columns can be added to help refine your search.

For example, in Vendor Setup, search for ‘driver’ to hide other types of vendor profiles. Use the compound search key and add additional searches. Check out the Frontline Q7 Knowledge Base for more search bar tips.
